Many old Egyptian paintings, carvings, and hieroglyphs depict a picture of various beings throwing javelins.
Javelins have been used by many countries, through different cultures, and though they have many names, they are still the same thing.
The Javelin is even still used today, though as a sport rather than a weapon. What they are used for has changed, but not the how. The Javelin is a throwing weapon, a long pole with a spear on the tip.
*Disclaimer: I have done extensive research on each of these weapons. I am aware that there are many different versions of each of these weapons. I am not trying to spread false information. If you know and can prove any information wrong, please let me know and I will fix my errors. I have at least three references for all research on the weapons I will discuss through the challenge.

Definitely. These posts were originally going to be quite a bit longer with lots more information. But being a co-host, a writer getting ready to publish her first book, with a full time job, on top of having a brain tumor and jaw surgery to worry about, it didn't happen.

DeleteI'm more familiar with the Greek javelin than the Egyptian, but I guess both have the connection to hunting and war. Since these weapons were about the same length as the person hurling them, I was always impressed by anyone capable of doing that. I'm like A Daft Scot Lass, I throw, but it's very girly.

DeleteYAY! I actually enjoy the Javelin when I'm watching the Olympics. I don't watch sports other than the Olympics. But when it's on (winter or summer), it's like an addiction for me. I try to watch every single sport. I suddenly become a sports addict for two weeks. :)
