I got my one and only rejection - It didn't hurt like I thought it would.

Keep Calm and WRITE MISSING ROYAL Poster

If you've been here since day one, you probably know about the book that took seven years to write. If not, here is the rundown:

Missing Royal (originally titled Seven Oaths) took seven years to write (no, how long it took to write has nothing to do with the original title) and in all those years I kept writing and re-writing and editing and re-writing.

And finally in 2012 I participated in NaNoWriMo which ended up turning into a race and I completed the "final" draft. Upon writing that draft, I edited, revised, had beta readers look it over and in February of 2013 I sent the book to a publisher.

I was thrilled, ecstatic, and a little sad. I knew the answer before I hit send on that e-mail. Not because I don't believe in myself (okay, sometimes that is an issue - but not in this case). Nope, I knew because I knew the book wasn't ready. Wait! I knew the book wasn't ready and I sent it anyway?

Yep! You read that right! I knew that if I didn't let go of that book, if I didn't send it off I would NEVER stop re-writing it! I knew I would never let it go, I would never move on. Because I would edit and write and re-write the same book over and over and over for another seven years! And maybe more after that!

And the problem is other books are calling to me! How could I continue throwing away YEARS on one book that may never see the light of day? Well, I couldn't! So I submitted, and I set it aside.

Now, upon getting the actual rejection letter (September 18th 2013) I did cringe, and I was a little sad. But I also was very grateful! Because guess what! At that point I already had a cover for the book! Not to mention I'm working on THE FINAL (hahah, right!) draft right now!

Oh, did I mention that one of the coolest editors, authors, and people in the world gave me a ton of hints and tips as to why the book was rejected? Yep! They did! On top of that, it went from being a stand alone to the start of a SEVEN book series! (Yep, 7 - and 27-  is my lucky number(s)!) So truly, getting rejected was a blessing in disguise! And who knows, maybe one day Missing Royal will be a best seller! *Wishful thinking here*

And now, because it sounds fun and I've been hiding this gorgeous cover FOR MONTHS, I think it's time I finally do a cover reveal. So when this blog post gets 100 comments, I will do the cover reveal, announce the release date, AND share a teaser PLUS do a giveaway!

  10. Congratulations on letting your baby leave the nest and making room for another egg to hatch and... (how long can I keep up the metaphore?) ... then returning to the nest for one last flying lesson. ... (a little longer, I guess.) ... so here's hoping for many. many more eggs to hatch, more fledgling flights and ... (last one, I promise!) ... a whole flock in your tree. :-)
