Centaurs have the lower body of a horse and the upper body of man. Centaurs are known as wild, untamed and brutale. Hence 'Cento' in the name which means 'to goad' or 'to wound'.
A recent mention of Centaurs acting as such, can be found in Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague (book three). There are Centaurs in many stories and for the most part, are actually written as they are meant to be. The Chronicles of Narnia also have Centaurs. They are battle ready but also angry.
Let's just say, I never want to get on a Centaurs bad side.

Wonderful post. Centaurs played a big part in Harry Potter, too; one of them was even a professor at Hogwarts. :)

DeleteI think the first time I learned about centaurs was reading Narnia books at 7 years old. Fascinating. And yet I still don't like horses... but I do like men. What does that say? HAHA.

ReplyDeletehmmmm. I imagine that like most beings, there are gentle, nice, kind, good centaurs. In general they are supposed to be brutal though.
DeleteThe Centaurs depicted in the Disney film Fantasia were actually quite cute, not so battle ready as they usually are in mythology or other more modern versions.
