Interview: 

Konstanz:  Do you pan out your book before writing or do you just write it out as it comes to you?

Pandora: A little bit of both. Once an idea comes, I pan out the entire book from characters to locations and chapters. Then, I start writing it pen to paper. And only then it is, typed in. 

Konstanz:  If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be?

Pandora: Enid Blyton. A mind like that to fascinate children for generations ... I'd like to see how it happened. 

Konstanz:  Who would you rather meet: Robert Jordan or Rick Riordan? 

Pandora: Robert Jordan. It's out of this world. 

Konstanz:  Whats your writing bucket list?

Pandora: Wow. Tough one. But I'd really like to finish a 100,000 word fiction story, complete my horror novel and to sell more books. 

Konstanz:  Whats one thing you plan on doing differently as a published author?  (book signings. . . writers conference panels. . . etc)

Pandora: To write more. I find myself spread over so many marketing efforts, it sometimes comes to the point I'm too tired to write. 

Konstanz:  Do you have the HUGE Christmas breakfast or the HUGE Christmas dinner?  (Or both?)

Pandora: Neither. A massive Christmas lunch or high tea.

Konstanz: Hermione Granger or Bella Swan?

Terron:  Hermione Granger for SOOOO many reasons. She's intelligent, confident, independent, coordinated, and most importantly, her emotions are in check. She can hold her own and doesn't need anybody to protect her. Bella Swan, on the other hand, is the exact opposite on all fronts.

Konstanz: Describe your ideal date with Princess Leia.

Terron:Well, assuming I wasn't married, a perfect date with Princess Leia would go as follows: I'd pick her up in the Millennium Falcon (which I won off Han in a high stakes bet on a pod race), then we'd take a trip to Tatooine for a reunion with the Huts (who are glad to finally meet and thank Leia for ridding them of their obese monarch, Jabba). Afterward, we'd travel to the forest moon of Endor for a unique cultural experience with Wicket and the rest of the Ewoks. During dinner, Leia and I would laugh about the time she made out with her twin brother, then I'd take her back home. I really wouldn't have any interest in Leia because she's a conceded brat, but I'd still be a perfect gentleman. I know better than to mess with a Jedi.

Konstanz: Whats your greatest inspiration as a writer?

Terron: What most inspires me to write is the prospect of inspiring our youth to pull themselves away from their xbox and computer to enjoy some real entertainment. This is captured in my mission statement, "Inspiring an unwavering passion for reading across the globe, one community at a time."

Konstanz: How do you handle the writers life?

Terron: Writing is a full-time job for me. Except for when I'm at the U of U or doing homework, I spend all day writing. I keep myself motivated by listening to movie soundtracks and talking incessantly about my writing to my wife and dad.

Konstanz: What's your favorite book that has been made into a movie?

Terron: Hands down, The Lord of the Rings are my most favorite book-movies, although there are still scenes in those movies that bother me. Just another reason why it's always better to read the book.

Konstanz: What's your favorite Christmas tradition?

Terron: My favorite Christmas tradition is one that my wife and I started when we were married almost 9 years ago. Every Christmas, we get a new Christmas bear to add to our decorations. We usually line them up on the side of our staircase, but we had to move them on top of our halfwall this year because of our overly curious 18-month-old son. It's inspiring and reassuring to look up and see the line of bears representing the years of our marriage. I look forward to when we run out of room on the stairs.

The book:

After months of desperate attempts to survive, Lon’s situation becomes more hopeless. Annetta has been writing since words were carved on stone tablets with chisels. Not only does she write her own words, Annetta is also an accomplished editor. She lives just outside of St. Louis with her evil feline overlord, a rescued shelter cat named Athena.

Konstanz: Describe your ideal date with Steve Rogers (a.k.a Captain America).

Annetta: I'm not sure Captain America is really my type. Like many women, I have this attraction for the bad boy. I'm much more likely to run off with Wolverine. Actually, I haven't dated in so long I'm not sure what an ideal date is, exactly. Given my hermit ways, the ideal date for me would be cuddled up on the couch in front of a fire and planning world domination. Heh.


Konstanz: SciFi or Fantasy?

Annetta: I enjoy reading both, but I write fantasy. I don't have a scientific, linear mind. Some of my favorite authors are Robert Heinlein, Jack Chalker, and Arthur C. Clarke, but if a book starts becoming too technical as far as the science fiction, my eyes will glaze over. The thing about the three authors I mentioned is they are amazing storytellers. I might not understand the science involved, but their stories are so compelling it doesn't matter.
In fantasy, anything is possible although there are parameters. Even in fantasy, when you suspend disbelief you have to do it in a logical way. The two genres have a lot in common.

Konstanz: Do you write fanfiction?

Annetta: I did write a story set in Joshua Guess' universe of Living With the Dead, but that's as close as I've gotten. Writing with someone else's characters would be to me like wearing their underwear. However, visiting a universe with different characters is a lot of fun and I may do it again.

Konstanz: If you couldn't be a writer, what's your ideal career?

Annetta: Honestly, this is it for me. I can't see me doing anything else. It took a lot of hard work to get to this point, and I love it. I've worked in a wide variety of fields – medical, big business, food service, hospitality (and one memorable summer as a dancing hamburger)—but being a writer is all I have ever wanted to be.

Konstanz: What's your greatest inspiration as a writer?

Annetta: Books have been the foundation of my entire life. I learned to read when I was three years old and in the hospital; once I started, I never stopped. Since becoming a full-time writer, my friends and my kids are the inspiration that keeps me going. But the bedrock is composed of every book I've ever read which had a profound impact on me. I want to have that effect on other people.

Konstanz: If you had to write a Christmas book, what would it be about?

Annetta: Since I am not a fan of the Christmas season in its present incarnation, I would probably write a book involving this time of year as it was originally celebrated, without all the barbaric behavior over a $2.84 waffle iron. Then I'd have to throw in some fantastical element with an incident involving the ripping of entrails and redemption of the hero. Because that's how I roll.

The Book:

As the front desk manager of a hotel on the edge of Zombietown, Pallas is used to dealing with angry centaurs, surly trolls, and zombie housekeepers. The trouble really starts when one of her guests ends up dead. But that's not her only problem.

A cop with an attitude – can he be trusted to be more than just a pain in her ass or does he have a more sinister agenda? 

A new Guest Services Manager, out for her job and ready to sacrifice anyone in his way – what does he really want?

The attractive maintenance guy, endangering the promise she made out of necessity to the Goddess Athena – does he know more than he's telling?

A mermaid diva, whose show at the Sparkling Butterfly must go on – or else. 

Pallas needs to find the killer, and fast, or she'll lose her job, her home, and the ragtag family she's adopted out of her crew of "critters". 

In the course of the investigation Pallas uncovers connections to a nasty Oddities dealer deep in the heart of Zombietown, forcing her to expose a trauma from her past which could threaten her future. With everyone and everything she loves in danger, the promise made to the Goddess Athena may well damn her if she breaks it, but she is bound and determined to save her friends, her home, and everything she's built.

No matter what it takes.

Konstanz: Romance or action?

Andrea: A little of both, though I mainly write action. I like reading romances, but something needs to be happening to propel the story forward. And I love it when action has a little romance. :-)

Konstanz: What writing cliché bothers you the most?

Andrea: When it's used correctly, it doesn't bother me, but many, manyauthors get the following wrong:
"All of a sudden." I've seen it as "All the sudden," "All of sudden," and "All a sudden." It drives me nuts! :-) And they're not usually typos—the authors consistently get them wrong in the same way all the way throughout their stories.

Konstanz: What's your greatest inspiration as a writer?

Andrea: My readers. The best thing in the world is getting to know my readers and having them encourage and uplift me. Next, my husband, family and music. Also, sugar-free gum is big. :-)

Konstanz:  Describe your ideal date with The Joker (from Batman)

Andrea: It would start at Olive Garden, and would end with Batman rescuing me and taking me to his mansion to watch a movie and have hot chocolate. :-) And of course, I'd find out that Batman is really my husband. That would be the perfect date. :-) (With The Joker, of course. :-))

Konstanz: What is your hardest challenge as a writer?

Andrea: Maintaining an effective schedule where everything important gets done, especially my writing and editing. Also, understanding which things are important and which aren't. :-)

Konstanz: What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

Andrea: Family, Christmas lights, hot chocolate, and presents—watching people open theirs and getting new stuff. :-) Yes, I'm still a kid. :-)

Konstanz:  Describe your ideal date with Jack Sparrow. (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Patti: Oh, Jack. Who's not in love with the rakishly adorable captain of the Caribbean? Our perfect date would begin with him picking me up mid swing on a rope intended for his hanging. With another courageous swing, said rope would deliver us to the deck of the Black Pearl. While we dodge bullets and flaming cannon balls, I would free a cutlass from the hands of an attacking soldier and save Jack's life with a flourish of my blade. We would share a rousing swig of rum from his personal bottle over the flames of the enemy ship as it sank into the ocean. Oh look, is that a sunset through the smoke?

So romantic.

Konstanz: What do you hate most about being an author?

Patti: That no one understands yet I am a world literary goddess with the power to control the minds of the masses. But you will all see… mwhahahaha… yes indeed, you will. And when I control you all the world will be MINE!! Ahem… sorry, what was the question again?

Konstanz:  Hard-copy or E-book?

Patti: I adore both. There is something so delicious about the feel and scent of a real book, paper and gloss, ink on the page… but my ereader is so convenient! I'd rather not have to choose. I guess that means I'm embroiled in a love triangle. Sigh. My readers will adore that…

Konstanz: What writing mistakes have you made that you regret most?

Patti: Not trusting myself when I knew years ago this was what I was meant to be doing. My life's purpose fell into my lap when I was twelve, but I didn't honor it until a few years ago. Mind you, I know I'm a better writer for it, but I wish I listened to my young self. She's so SMART.

Konstanz: What is your greatest inspiration as a writer?

Patti: Chocolate. Barring that, everything. The more I write, the easier it is for the creativity to flow. It's as if I'm in a constant open state, absorbing everything around me for book fodder. I've been known to ignore friends at dinner for ten minutes after someone says something sparking an idea. Three napkins and a borrowed pen later and I want to go home.

Patti: World literary domination. And that peace stuff too would be okay.

The book:

Konstanz: Describe your ideal date with Cinderella.

Scott: I’d have her submit to finger printing, DNA testing and pose before the castle cameras so I wouldn’t have to work for blasted hard trying to find her the next day! Also I’d abolish any clocks at the Ball so she’d be stuck revealing her identity.

Konstanz: What is something you hope people will learn from your books?

Scott: That no matter the handicap or challenge, anyone can rise up and take a stand.  Anyone can make a difference. Strength can come in small packages. History can be fun.

Konstanz: Do you write plot driven stories or character driven stories?

Scott: A mix of both, although my characters tend to choose their own paths no matter what is in my notes or outlines.

Konstanz:  What’s your greatest inspiration as a writer?

Scott: JK Rowling, Rick Riordan, mountains of comics and my family.

Konstanz:  Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Scott: I see “Team this or that” as a way to list which characters I find the best, most enjoyable. Yeah, I get that we’re supposed to see it as “Who do you want Bella to hook up with” but the only thing I want Bella to hook up with is an oncoming train.

With this point in mind, I’d say “Team Nessie” cause she reminds me of my main character, child vampire Annabelle.  Also I could be “Team Alice & Jasper”, “Team Volturi” or my fav Twilight baddie “Team Jane”.

Still, if I must play the “Pick a suitor for depressed Swan game” I would be for Jacob. He’s well rounded, fun, and more real than Mr. Fake Sparkles. Edward represents an ideal you ladies will never find. Jacob represents the boy next door who would sacrifice his life for you. That’s real.

Konstanz:  Whats the worst Christmas present you've ever been given?

Scott: I was waiting with baited breath for the 4 disc set of Lord of the Rings 2. Due to a mishap it was 2 video cassettes, no features, no extended scenes, nothing.  I was pretty disappointed because the many features were what made the purchase.

Not big. Got it all sorted. Mistakes happen. That’s the only real Christmas mistake I can think of. I’ve made worse fumbles in my gift-giving.

Konstanz: Musical or Dialogue?

Elizabeth: I like a little of both, but since my heart's in music, musical!

Konstanz:  What"s your greatest inspiration as a writer?

Elizabeth: This sounds funny, but it is my imagination that is the greatest source of inspiration!

Konstanz: Describe your ideal date with Waldo.  (Good luck finding him. . .)

Elizabeth: Well, first of all, in order for it to be considered ideal, he'd have to make himself available to me. He'd have a super fun date planned for me starting with geocaching. He'd set up a scavenger hunt that would provide hints of what our nightcap would be! Doesn't this sound like fun?

Konstanz: If you could take a writing class from any author, who would you choose and why?

Elizabeth: Stephenie Meyer because she's LDS and successful. I'd like to know how this has impacted her faith and how it's affected her and her family.

Konstanz: Favorite panel you've been to at a writing conference?  (What conference?)

Elizabeth: Bootcamp at LDStorymakers! We learned techniques and ideas and made lots of friends.

Konstanz:  Whats your favorite Christmas song?

Elizabeth: O Holy Night

Ali: Pegasus. Or dragon. Wait. I love horses which makes me think PEGASUS, but then I'm a huge fan of the DragonSinger of Pern series so . . . dragons. Yeah. Dragons. :)

Konstanz: Describe your ideal date with Harry Potter.

Ali: Sadly, I never would have said YES to HP. Now if George had asked me out . . . 

Konstanz: If you were asked to give the keynote address at a writers conference,  what would your topic be?

Ali: How to write a novel NINJA STYLE!!

Konstanz:  Do you listen to music while you writer?  (If yes,  what kind of music?  If no, why not?)

Ali: Absolutely YES! I almost always listen to music, but WHAT I listen to depends on the story I'm writing. DESOLATION? Pandora on an Evanescence station. THE SWIFT? Pandora on a Stan Rogers station.

Konstanz: Hot Cocoa or Apple Cider? 

Ali: Hot Chocolate for sure!

How can anyone say that magic does not exist?  

The one who can say that is one who has never read a good book.

Authors have all kinds of magic. 

The magic to take a blank page and fill it with a beautiful story.

Is the magic to control the readers emotions.

The magic of making the readers stomach fill with butterflies.

The power of making you feel as if you are drowning in every crashing wave of the ocean

or making you feel weightless, flying in the clouds.

How can one say that, that is not magic?

The one who can say magic does not exist is the one who has never listened to a good song.

The singer has magic. 

Power to make you move your body to the beat.

Power to make you sway with the sound, or go weak at the knees.  

Power to make your heart pound as you listen with intent, finally feeling understood as the music describes exactly how you feel. 

The one who can say magic does not exist is the one who has never watched a powerful movie.

Directors, producers, actors. . . they all have a combined magic. 

The power to make you feel for people you have never met.  How can one watch Lord of the Rings and not feel for Frodo?  

How can one watch Phantom of the Opera and not weep for what Christine goes through?

How can one watch Harry Potter and not have a sense of bonding?

So again I ask. . . How can Anyone say that Magic does not exist?

Magic does not have to come from a stick with fancy carvings or make pretty blue lights around them as they say ‘magic' words.  

Magic is ones ability to be artistic.

Nope. . . I'm not giving away the book!  I am giving away the pillow.  Now you might think this is odd but once you try out this reading pillow you will not think so.  It is a wonderful tool for when you want to just sit or lay down and read.
